Asturian traditional music of celtic origin, CD Description/Songs: The excellent reception of Llan de Cubelīs debut album,
Deva, was only to be bettered with this their second release
Na Llende (On The Edge), furthermore achieving the bandīs first
Superventolín prize (for Best Folk Band). The success of this
album drew interest from audiences abroad which also brought the possibility of
performances throughout Europe and beyond, making the band a solid name in
international folk circuits. In mid 1992 the famous Scottish folk group The
Tannahill Weavers covered one of the tunes from Na Llende on their
album The Mermaidīs Song.
Llan de Cubel are unquestionably the most internationally recognised
Asturian folk group and their five records--published between 1987 and
1999--are basic for the new Asturian music. Their tunes are characterized by
their recurring rhythm, the originality in treating the traditional tunes, the
use of vindicatory and poetic texts (in sung themes) and a high melodic and
instrumental quality. They play gaita, violin, flute, percussion, bouzouky,
acoustic guitar, bass and--occasionally--accordion and synthesizer. Llan de
Cubel are: Marcos Llope, Elías García, Fonsu Mielgo--three of
the founders--, Simon Bradley, Xuan Rodríguez and Xel Pereda.
