Long description: NŽARBA style features a blend of traditional pieces, original
compositions and field work (seen at best in vocals). In this secund album,
Inda ya ceu, the band offers us eleven tracks based on Asturian
traditional music and creations of their own, with powerful and suggestive
rhythms, especially notable in such pieces as: "Esti pandeiru",
"Danza Salcéu", "El cura ta malu",
"Saltón de Riegu" o "Maruxina". NŽARBA offers
rhythmic bases of bass and drums, upon which the melodies are built, using
fiddles, guitar, bouzouki, whistles and Asturian bagpipes.
The bandŽs first recording was released in 1998 in a CD titled Nuevu Folk
Asturianu. Volume II (Discos LŽAguañaz) which featured two
debutant Asturian folk bands: NŽarba and Folkgando. That same
year NŽARBA won the first prize at the FM98 folk contest. This along
with the success of their CD debut earned the band widespread acclaim both in
Asturies and abroad. One of their songs was included in the prestigious
compilation series Naciones Celtas III (Fonomusic) and allowed
for the bandŽs live presentation in Madrid. In 2000 NŽARBA was one of
the bands chosen to represent Asturies at the Lorient Interceltic Festival
(Brittany), where the bandŽs performances were received with enthusiastic
reviews.
These six musicians currently form one of the most promising acts on the
Asturian folk scene, and this second work by the band (first in solitary)
thoroughly confirms and validates the expectations aroused among public and
critics.
