cantares (melodies and rhythms): an attempt to transmit the traditional way
of understanding--musically--Christmas in Asturies.
Long description: Andecha Folclor dŽUviéu was formed in 1989 when two groups of
research in the Asturian musical heritage, Riscar and Urogallos,
came together to combine efforts in field work and performances. As result came
into being one of the most impressive archives and field recordings bases in
Asturies, as well as one of the most important discographies by Asturian
research groups, of which the three albums on the El ciclu per
Navidá: el son nos Aguilandos, Villancicos y Ramos III (The
Christmas Cycle in Astuires) is undoubtedly one of the finest examples.
On this CD are included pieces from the Torner Songbook as well as short
excerpts from first hand recordings of traditional Christmas songs from (mostly
elderly) informants, followed by the more ellaborate versions interpreted by
Andecha Folclor. In the latter are featured such prestigious musicians
as Dolfu Rodriguez (fiddle and bass drum), Octavio Trapiella
(button accordions), or Canor Fernandez (hurdy gurdy, wood
bones...).
