La ReinaŽl Truébano Pipe BandŽs second CD, recorded in June,
2003 and comprising 12 tracks.
Long description: La ReinaŽl Truébano Pipe Band is the outcome of the effort of
many people of all ages, all from de Western Asturias and proud of playing a
praiseworthy and traditional instrument, the Asturian bag-pipe, long time
demeaned and ignored. Despite being a relatively young band, the repertoire
includes great variety, along with uniformity in dress and rhythm.
The band does not limit itself to activities of playing where requested, but
studies and investigates traditions and searches for folk songs of the past.
The adaptation of old songs and the creation of new ones is influenced by their
roots.
Xalea Real is La ReinaŽl TruébanoŽs second CD,
after its recording debut in 1997 with "La danza lŽocho". Xalea
Real was recorded throughout June, 2003 and comprises 12 tracks in
which we find featured appearances by Nené Rico Losada (well
known Asturian poet), the voice of Chus Pedro from Nuberu (on
"Agora non"), Manuel Durán (in charge of percussion
arrangements), as well as, aside from the strictly musical, the CDŽs cover
design by Asturian painter Álvaro Delgado.
Once again, we find that the bandŽs repertoire consists mainly of traditional
Asturian songs, above all from the Western part, characterised by their
richness, originality and mixture of influences from both Asturias and Galicia.
Another aspect of the repertoire is that it is oriented towards the Celtic
World in its entireness, incorporating arrangements inspired on Scottish, Irish
and Galician tunes too.
La ReinaŽl Truébano Pipe Band, though aware of its shortcomings,
nonetheless feels proud of its achievements, which show that the studentsŽ
efforts are not wasted. It is the dream and hope of getting better which
encourages the pipe band to pursue all its objectives, set mainly on becoming a
worthy representaton of the rich musical heritage of Western Asturias.
