La vida es un blues

Author: Rody Herrera Blues Band

Never until now had Rody´s fans had the opportunity of having a studio album entirely written and sung (as well as of course featuring him on guitars and harmonica) by the best known bluesman in Asturies.

Long description: Asturian born Rody Herrera grew up in Madrid where he started playing live since the age of thirteen, even teaming up with several important musicians of the Spanish pop and rock scene: Pedro Guerrero (Labanda), Ramón Arroyo (Los Secretos)... He has since developed an over twenty year long career as a highly respected backup guitarist in such styles as blues, funky, folk and jazz.

In 1983 Rody moved back to Asturies, amidst a flourishing revival of Asturian folk music, soon teaming up with some of the prime figures of the moment (Xuacu Amieva, Pedro Pangua, Fernando Largo...) with whom he formed the legendary line-up Beleño and went on to record the emblematic LP Na ca´l fuau. Throughout the eighties Rody remained very active in the folk scene, founding such highly respected bands as Ubiña and Boides (together with now multimillion selling piper Hevia). In the nineties he began teaching guitar, which he continues to do to the present as one of Asturies´s most prestigious and highly demanded guitar pros. This caused him to renounce involving himself in fixed line-ups or bands, although at times he continued to make himself available for names like Tejedor (with who he recorded Texedores de suaños), Luétiga, Hevia, etc., which allowed him to play at such events as the Interceltic Festival of Lorient (Brittany) and Chicago´s Celtic Fest, two of admitted favourites.

Besides his love for Asturian folk music, Rody´s passión for blues and jazz has never let him stay away from these styles for too long either, frequently offering much appreciated live performances (solo and accompanied by an informal though farely stable band) and also by teaming up with the American guitar player Michael Lee Wolf to form The Blues Rangers, which released the CD The Fireman.

But... never until now had Rody´s fans had the opportunity of having a studio album entirely written and sung (as well as of course featuring him on guitars and harmonica) by the best known bluesman in Asturies. (CD presentation text, by Lisardo Lombardia)
