 Yá! Author: Felpeyu
6 years after FelpeyuŽs highly acclaimed previous release, Tierra,
and with three international tours behind them during this period, the bandŽs
third studio effort finally arrives, exceptionally well received by media and
fans alike. Long description: After a long wait since their previous release in 1997, Tierra, and
with three international tours behind them during this period--including highly
acclaimed extensive visits to Australia--Felpeyu present their third
studio album, Yá!, exceptionally well received by media
and fans alike, thus confirmaing the band as one of AsturiesŽs most recognized
folk acts.
Felpeyu, which has long been considered one of our most influential and
innovative folk bands, recorded Yá! at "Sinergia
Digital" studios in Madrid, with their sound technician, Salva
López. The recording was meticulously prepared for over two years so
that the present CD is considered to be a more mature work as far as concerns
technical quality and musical arrangements, although the band retain their
unmistakable style. For this purpose the band members also preferred to take
care of all the production work themselves and do without any collabortions
from external musicans.
The instrumentation furthers in the direction of their preceding album, except
for the noticeable greater presence of the traverse flute, played by the latest
addition to the band, Macallan prize winner Diego Pangua, fully
integrated in his pipe and flute duties. The new repertoire features mainly
arrangements of traditional pieces as well as a little of the bands own
production (though rigourously based on traditional patterns, as the members
eagerly emphasize). In all, a total of 12 new tracks, five of which feature
vocals, with texts for the lyrics by well known Asturian writer, Boni
Perez, and felpeyos Ígor Medio y Ruma Barbero,
as well as the purely traditional materials.
In this new album of impressive accoustic and interpretative quality are
included some of the bandŽs favourite melodies and rhythms (muñeras,
saltones, xirandiyes, etc.), all played in the always effective manner of
Felpeyu.
